C. Piso L.f. Frugi, 67 BC. Denarius (Silver, 18 mm, 4.00 g, 7 h), Rome. Diademed, draped and cuirassed bust of Apollo to left with bow and quiver over his shoulders. Rev. C•PISO•L•FRV Naked horseman galloping left, holding reins in his left hand and torch in his right; below, rudder. Babelon (Calpurnia) 29. Crawford 408/1b. RBW -. Sydenham 878. Very rare and unusually attractive. A few light marks and with minor weakness on the hair, otherwise, extremely fine.

From the Red Ox Collection and the collection of the Czech musician Adolf Picek (circa 1885-1978), and formerly in the possession of an Italian banker, whose life was saved by Mr. Picek in the Battles of the Piave River on the Italian Front in 1917-1918 and who presented his savior with 'four socks of old coins' in reward.
